Pure Evil Gallery Presents: PROZAC “Multifaces” A Solo Exihibition (London, UK)

In this exhibition, the Brazilian artist Prozak presents prints and paintings in mixed media on paper, continuing his research on transparencies and overlays, exploring the levels of saturation and contrast between colors, and the reaction between the materials used.

These peculiar portraits, almost abstracts, contain multiple faces, skulls and masks mixed with expressions of euphoria, joy, anger, sadness and frustration, are a metaphor for the precarious balance of the human mind, and question the boundaries between the various layers of human emotion and complete insanity.

São Paulo is an epicentre for graffiti artists, and Mazu Prozak is one of the most prolific and influential Paulistan graffiti artists of his generation.

Pure Evil Gallery Presents: Deedee Cheriel “Little Spirit and the Infinite Longing” (London, UK)

From a previous career playing in seminal bands, Los Angeles based artist Deedee Cheriel has evolved into an acclaimed and sought-after street artist and one of the genre’s few female success stories. Her first solo exhibition in the UK – Little Spirit and the Infinite Longing – utilizes seemingly disparate influences including Indian temple imagery, punk, feminism and naturalism, set within a landscape inspired by a childhood amidst the lush forests of the Pacific Northwest United States.

These unique visual narratives convey an unsettled sense of yearning and the complexities inherent in human connection. The images are created with Cheriel’s signature ‘pop’ multi-colored stripes on canvases and posters, murals and billboards with techniques acquired as a street artist, filmmaker and during her time as a touring musician.
With nuances of East Indian folk art, Cheriel’s use of bold elements – both urban and natural, as well as pop culture – suggest an ability to find commonalities and relationships between self and surroundings. Trees reach down towards woodland creatures, animated by life forces within; life-changing journeys are undertaken with spiritual intent. These are stories of loss, hope and inspiration, profound reminders of the very things that inevitably confirm our common humanity and our ultimate quest for connection.

Over three decades ago, the mean streets and projects of Philly, Detroit & NYC began to blossom bright with spray-painted tales and tags of inner-city ‘hoodrats armed with spray cans, innate artistic talent, and a way with words and imagery whether it be spoken or drawn that demanded to be seen and heard.

The best became known as graffiti kings, a title not easily won. this small band of guerilla artists, innovators of a now global art form are one of the few to earn the right to incorporate the crown image in their art or above their tag, through accruing the highest number of tags in the most difficult to access places or most openly defiant public spaces.

Stylish, subversive, in-yer-face political and social comment perpetrated by anonymous tagsters using the city and its transport systems as their urban canvas. now banned from street and subway, the new york kings have found another way to express themselves, more contained this time but no less ironic.

In London for the first time in over a decade, a unique exhibition of the godfathers of graffiti art using new york subway maps as their canvas to tell their 30 year story while remaining true to their roots. this is a rare opportunity to see examples of a genre that is often temporary by its very nature.
Even more special is the limited availability to own a work of urban art that is also a piece of history.

Word to Mother solo show “Essence of Adolescence” Friday Stolen Space Gallery

‘Essence of Adolescence’ is an enlightening glimpse into the artist’s visually obsessed mind. Word To Mother invites the viewer to take a glimpse of his inner mindscape. An outward manifestation that combines references drawn from his childhood and the visual stimulation that he absorbed; cartoons juxtaposed with more serious emotive thoughts and fears that face him as an adult living and painting in East London.

We’ve just started putting up a few of the pieces handed in so far for the Preview of the ROBBO auction @ Pure Evil Gallery
The preview of the auction opens Thursday evening at 6pm but some images of the work donated so far is up already because we want to get on it straight away… so far we have already raised abut £25,000 selling paintings and prints which is going towards Robbo and his family… he has a baby who is 1 year and 8 months old and other children and we’re trying to help the family out.

The guy is in a coma still, but he seems to be responding to some commands… anyone who has speculated about his injury and what actually happened to put him in hospital heres the scoop : He fell outside his house and hit his head really badly on some stone steps and he has been in hospital ever since.

I dont care about the graffiti / street art politics behind Banksy vs Robbo thats just a falling out between 2 painters. In the bigger picture of things its meaningless . This is more important than all that, we’re just trying to help out a mate. He’s no angel but he’s had a hard knock (literally) and he needs our help.

Carpet Culture Bombing Presents: Isaac Cordal’s Book “Cement Eclipses, Small Intervention In The Big City” (London, UK)

brooklyn-street-art-isaac-cordal-Cement-eclipses-book-1-webIsaac Cordal …is a sculpture artist from London. His sculptures take the form of little people sculpted from concrete in ‘real’ situations. Cordal manages to capture a lot of emotion in his vignettes, in spite of their lack of detail or colour. He is sympathetic toward his little people and we empathise with their situations, their leisure time, their waiting for buses and their more tragic moments such as accidental death, suicide or family funerals. His sculptures can be found in gutters, on top of buildings, on top of bus shelters – in many unusual and unlikely places in the capital. This book is the first time his images have been shown in together in one book dedicated to his work. Many images never seen before Cordal’s concrete sculptures are like little magical gifts to the public that only a few lucky people will see and love but so many more will have missed. Left to their own devices throughout London Cordal what really makes these pieces magical is their placement. They bring new meaning to little corners of the urban environment. They express something vulnerable but deeply engaging. Left to fend for themselves, you almost want to protect them in some way, or perhaps communicate with them. Of course the 25cm high sculptures of people in everyday poses the artist creates in are not real, are they? Well you’ve opened a whole can of worms with that question. Yes, the little scenes in Concrete Eclipse are somewhat poignant but they do not invite you to weep passively for lost worlds you never knew. They are there to provide a one handed clap to shake you from your reveries and plug you back in to the world. So Cordall’s men in grey are a little message of hope in spite of their forlorn appearance and they are there to remind you that pessimism is not common sense, it’s just pessimism. So make sure you do something inessential today. Go on, the grey men don’t want you to.

Our knowledge of human’s fragile existence is reinforced by the twin natural disasters of earthquake and tsunami in Japan. Our man made folly is compounded by the explosions at the nuclear power plant there – causing us to question the hundreds of nuclear plants around the world. It is times like this that our words have to match our actions, and if we say we want to alleviate suffering now is a good time to make certain that our collective efforts reach those that are desperate for help.

What has it been like for the past 4 days as the damage unveils itself?

My town has no damage because it’s far away from the epicenter. However, my friends who live in the stricken area are still in shelter. I hear that they’re living without electricity…

How have people in Tokyo been living their lives?

Also in Tokyo, the aftershock still continues and people can’t settle down their minds. I was going to go to work in Tokyo the day after tomorrow, but all schedules are postponed

As previously reported, Belgian artist ROA is currently in London now – which is grayer and chillier than the sun roasted Mexico he just left a minute ago. The boy just can’t sit still and the idea of keeping him off of a ladder and away from a beat-up decrepit bumpy old wall would be like prying my nephew’s hands off the PlayStation. Ain’t gonna happen. Charley Uzzell Edwards, artist and accidental gallerist at Pure Evil has gallantly provided BSA readers with some live exclusive ROA in action while he’s been working on a mural in Old Street.

Presents his first UK solo show ‘WHO AM I?’ at the Pure Evil Gallery on the 17th of February..The show runs until March 6th, at which point another 0Š2Famiglia Baglione¦Ð member FLIP begins his first UK solo exhibition at the gallery.
Brazilian artist Alexandre ¡ÝSesper¡Ü Cruz spent his adolescence absorbed in music and skateboarding – building ramps, making fanzines that documented the Sao Paulo art scene, and recording k-7 compilations. These interests influenced the sticker and paste up poster campaigns he launched around the city in 1999.
Sesper is best known for his unique mixed media artwork. He uses recycled material such as paper, cardboard and wood as his surface and paints over these with oil pastel and latex, incorporating layer upon layer of texture and color. A member of the renowned Brazilian art collective, the Famiglia Baglione, Sesper has participated in and filmed many of their live painting and gallery installations around Brazil.
He produces music and is a full time vocalist for Garage Fuzz band since 1991, as well having sung and recorded in the following bands: OVEC, PSYCHIC POSSESSOR, SAFARI HAMBURGUERS, PAURA, and the projects: NOTWORK, INTROSPECTIVE, LOFI EXPERIMENTS, VALLEJO X SUNSET, 5 GAS QUESTION, FLIPTOP, and others.
