BSA Images Of The Week: 02.12.23

Welcome to BSA Images of the Week!

How are you feeling, friends? This month “Beyond the Streets” is opening at Saatchi Gallery in London, Risk is receiving a lifetime achievement award in Miami, and yet another Banksy show is opening in New York. Also, there will be a lot of kissing on Tuesday, so you may want to prepare yourself to pucker up.

Some kind of big game today we guess. Happens every year about this time – the streets will be empty this afternoon as people will be inside their homes, gathered around their screens, eating buffalo wings, pigs-in-a-blanket and tater tots with family and friends. Happy World Series everybody!

Meanwhile, the Chinese are flying balloons over the US, spying. Shocking. Who else does this remind you of?

New York street art is heavy with pop icons, pop psychology, and popular culture in this week’s collection.

Here’s our weekly interview with the street, this week featuring: SacSix, Sara Lynne Leo, Degrupo, Eye Sticker, Stickman, Ollin, Jorit, Steve the Bum, and Kir One.

Welcome to BSA Images of the Week!

Constant rain for days, but the street art is blooming, baby! As are the riotous news waves about the Supreme Court, abortion laws, the efficacy of the vaccine, the ridiculous/tone deaf Met Ball, the new electric bikes just released by Citi, a rise in anti-semitism in New York, the legalization of weed, the 60 Collective 3 show in Dumbo, Swoon’s new “Sanctuary” Project, Elon Musk buying Twitter, a virtual unknown winning the Kentucky Derby, and Meghan McCain selling only 244 copies of her new book. Who is she again?

Nevermind, we’re back on the streets where we belong, tracking the exciting new directions it is taking us.

Here’s our weekly interview with the street, this week featuring: Jason Naylor, INSA, Sticker Maul, Stikman, Degrupo, Diva Dogla, Mike Raz, Corn Queen, Jorit, Eric John Eigner, Smet Sky Art, Bad Boi, O. Grey, Steven Paul Judd, Katie Merz, and Delphinoto.

BSA-Images-Week-Jan2015

It’s Bushwick Collective Weekend Yo! The assembled faces and artists is local, national, international – a melange of what Brooklyn has become in recent years and the streets are alive with involved citizenry in search of entertainment, art and community. The Street Art scene is alive and well, just mutating weirdly as it always does; charges of commercialism and the whitening power of gentrification notwithstanding. A little further out in BedStuy was the #PrincePartyBK yesterday with Spike Lee celebrating the Purple One’s birthday, along with a lot of Biggie love, and Muhammad Ali love, and you, Love.

Here’s our weekly interview with the street, this week featuring 1Penemy, BG183, Bio, City Kitty, Coro, Crash, GIZ, JMR, KLOPS, Loco Art, Marie Roberts, Nepo, Nicer, Samantha Vernon, Sheryo, Tats Crew, The Yok, Thomas Allen, Tristan Eaton, UNO, XSM, and You Go Girl!

Protestors at the entrance of the Brooklyn Navy Yard have been drawing attention to their opinion that the Duke Riley “Fly By Night” art project with Creative Time is cruel to the pigeons in some way and that the animals are being exploited for profit. Riley has reportedly consulted pigeon clubs, an avian veterinarian, experts from animal welfare groups and been given a good review from the Audubon society so the opinion does not seem unanimous. Regarding the charge of making a profit, we’re pretty sure all the tickets are free, right? Our favorite one is the sign that also insults the artistic quality of the project as “mediocre.” Oh, gurl, you did not manage to throw some shade while protecting those birds did you? Snap! BSA-Images-Week-Jan2015

Thanks to everyone who came out to talk to us and listen to a conversation we had with FAILE on the stage of the Brooklyn Museum – where everybody learned facts that are fundamental to understanding this dynamic duo; Where the name came from, why they write “1986” on everything, and what role religion plays in their work, among other things.  More on this Tuesday.

In other news, Pope Francis brought the city to a standstill – especially in Manhattan where he hit the United Nations, Central Park, and held a mass at Madison Square garden with his messages about immigration, greed, climate change, and the burgeoning wars that heads of state (there were 170 in town) appear powerless to prevent and woefully inadequate at protecting the people from. Throngs of faithful and long security lines greeted him all over the city. There was some Street Art here and there to mark the occasion, and we will continue to keep our eyes open for it now that he has gone to Philadelphia to hold an enormous mass on the steps of the Philadelphia Museum.

Also, tonight is the Blood Moon! Not sure what that means but the name is sort of scary. If we all die in an apocalypse remember we love you. If not, same.

And all the while these two French guys were dragging their furniture down Broadway from 125th Street on a city-wide tour…. Full story tomorrow on BSA.

Here’s our weekly interview with the street, this week featuring 2501, City Kitty, Fanakapan, Jose Parla, JR, Mark Samsonovich, Mosher Show, Punk Me Tender, Renauld & Boijeot, Rubin415, Sandra Chevrier, Shin Shin, Stikman, and Wing.
