Masters & Pelavin is proud to announce a group exhibition, titled Legend Tripping, which will be on view from April 18 through June 1, 2013. A variety of media will be shown—installation, mixed-media, painting, photography, drawing, sculpture, collage—and a number of international artists represented, including: Karl Klingbiel, Timothy Paul Myers, Cecilia Vissers, Peter Buechler, Steven Katzman, Vincent Valdez, Jeremy Harris, Jon Rappleye, Julia Randall, Ruth Hardinger, RAE and others. An opening Reception will be held on Thursday April 18 from 6-8pm — this event is free and open to the public.

Munch Gallery is pleased to present ‘Waste Forms’, featuring new paintings by Erik Savage(aka RADICAL!). Since his first solo exhibition back in October 2011, Savage has investigated further into the themes of habitual consumerism and addictions, social alienation and structures. Through a new expressive style, he draws on objects common in nature, and commonly disregarded – our subjective waste. As we navigate through life’s constant beginnings and endings, the matter in between most often appears as a fluctuant disharge, but always unleashing in its isolated power. The waste forms become our narrative debris as we push through life and expedite new memories.
On April 19 myplasticheart will celebrate the opening of Hanna-Barbarians, a group show featuring the work of over 20 artists from the U.S. and abroad. The show’s name is a tongue-in-cheek reference to its theme, with all artists creating pieces using elements from their favorite cartoons. This is a chance for these artists to showcase those cartoons that have influenced them throughout their careers, sometimes being critical elements in their development and interest in the arts. The show is curated by the Studio Miners, Evoker & Team Sweet, who find joy in documenting the wonderfully exciting world of artists, collectors and creatives of all kinds. This theme particularly appealed to the Studio Miners because in their travels and studio visits, they were always fascinated to see what imagery other artists surrounded themselves with to stimulate creativity.
The opening will take place on Friday, April 19 from 6 – 9pm and the show will run until May 17. In anticipation of the opening, we will feature several sneak peeks of art from the show on this blog. To sign up for our preview list contact previewme@myplasticheart.com.

The Urban Habitat Project (UHP) is focused on creating dwellings for the aviary community and has successfully installed units in major metropolises from New York to Mexico City.
XAM comes to New York via Chicago and Los Angeles and has been part of the active street-art scene for many years. Drawing on his architectural training, XAM has created by far one of the most unique types of street art to truly integrate form and function. These structures are no ordinary “bird houses;” many of them are site-specific constructions that include solar panels for night lights and roof-top gardens to actively support plant life and encourage insect nesting. At times there are elements of humor in the designs, such as mock satellite dishes and camouflage paint jobs.
In this weeks news, COST is on the cover of the Village Voice and Jay Shells is making street signs with geographically pin-pointed rap lyrics (see video below).

With much respect to the Jazz Age and the musical heritage of New York that still boasts a huge number of jazz musicians, events and venues, artist Sir Shadow plays alongside the aerosol tags with his one-liners in the East Village. Using a technique known to many a graffiti writer, the artist makes the piece without lifting his marker off the wall until he has finished it.
It is a welcome and melodious play of the line when you happen upon something new, something unexpected like this on the street, and unusual to find a small series of pieces all at once. The musicians who Sir Shadow depicts are jamming out or performing solo, providing the score and the mood, taking the stage or setting it, working in a sort of collaborative balance with the graffiti writer, the tagger; both styles proudly their own, a street combo without beef and in harmony.
