Word to Mother solo show “Essence of Adolescence” Friday Stolen Space Gallery

‘Essence of Adolescence’ is an enlightening glimpse into the artist’s visually obsessed mind. Word To Mother invites the viewer to take a glimpse of his inner mindscape. An outward manifestation that combines references drawn from his childhood and the visual stimulation that he absorbed; cartoons juxtaposed with more serious emotive thoughts and fears that face him as an adult living and painting in East London.

Moniker
brooklyn-street-art-moniker-art-fair-carmichael-gallery

Following our hugely successful debut last year, Moniker is back to shake up London’s art fair scene once again highlighting the international scope of street art and beyond. Moniker was responsible for putting East London on the art fair map in 2010, challenging traditional conventions with both gallery exhibits and further signature project spaces ready to whet the appetites of the art crowds.
With over 10,000 people walking through its doors last year, Moniker is set to bombard the scene once again, with a matchless assemblage of artists and galleries who are often overlooked by mainstream art fairs.
Moniker has become recognised by those in tune with international art trends, along with collectors, critics and art lovers alike.Moniker will take place in October this year at Village Underground, Shoreditch from the 13th–16th of October. In addition, Moniker Projects will continue with its philosophy of commissioning a series of offsite projects including public artworks, educational workshops and film screenings, offering visitors a number of opportunities to get involved and be informed.

Stolen Space Gallery Presents: Word To Mother “Essence Of Adolescence” (London, UK)

Word To Mother

Word To Mother
‘Essence Of Adolescence’
14.10.11 – 30.10.11

StolenSpace is proud to present Word To Mother’s fifth solo show with us, entitled ‘Essence Of Adolescence’ featuring a new body of mixed media paintings on wooden panels.

Incorporating hand drawn personal sentiments, emotions and feelings that he executes in the form ofloose script, inspired from his experience as a tattoo artist and tight sign written letters, drawn from years of painting graffiti. A beautiful juxtaposition, of fragile and emotive elements shown through subtle textures and washes of colour, but with a strength and confidence fused with his signature patterns, architecture & figures, this body of work is melancholic yet fun and playful. With anearthy ‘London’ palette of grey tones excentuating splashes of brighter ‘seaside’ colours of fluro red, pink, yellows and turquoise which give the paintings an
optimistic feel. Word To Mother draws inspiration from an adolscence which holds precious memories, juxtaposed with an adulthood which has made him the talented artist he is today.

About the Artist:

Word to Mother was born and raised in a small English seaside town, never far from a stoney beach, crashing waves and salty sea veterans. It’s this environment thats has had such impact and influence on Word to Mother’s work and can be seen
throughout his drawings and paintings, whether that be the salvaged wood that he often uses as his canvas or the ‘Sailor Jerry’ tattoo references that appear subtly within his work, his paintings help to remind him of his roots whilst now dwelling in a town called London that he makes home.

If he is not drawing, and there is rarely a moment in the day that his sketch book isn’t being filled with twisted sketches or letter outlines that nod to his past, then he is on the lookout for discarded objects, vintage printed matter, or reading and broadening his knowledge so he can find the correct metaphors and words to describe his visual language. His loosness of line, fluidity of style and energy present in each and every painting make his work and approach truly unique and have fast gained him a firm and loyal following.

With shows scheduled for London, San Francisco and LA his artwork ensures that no matter where in the world he travels he’s never far from his home-town port.

Guy Denning at Brooklynite Gallery Pop Up

Opening last night in a smoke filled ripped up storefront below Canal and above City Hall was this shrine filled show of meditations on 9/11, and the places we go amidst the memories and the rubble. Rae from Brooklynite spoke about the balance you try to strike when presenting a show like this, and they have probably hit it. Mixing headlines, languages, and the metaphor of purgatory with the anguish, longing, celebration and poetry that somehow coexist, Denning does a tender justice to us all.

Black Rat Projects Presents: “BRP Paper” (London, UK)

BRP PAPER
brooklyn-street-art-Black-rat-press-projects-galleryWelcome Back! Here’s hoping everyone had a fantastic month of August despite the cold and rainy conditions. The Black Rat team is back from the far corners of Europe and we are thrilled to open our doors once again and welcome you to our September show ‘BRP Paper’ opening Thursday 8th of September through to October 16th.

Skilled and labour intensive, paper works respond to the rise of the digital age in small carefully crafted rebellions. Through the manipulation of paper today’s artists turn to this generation’s redundant material as a site of endless creative possibility. ‘BRP Paper’ will present  bringing these international artists together for the first time to explore common themes in their work.

Another autumn milestone getting us excited is Black Rat’s participation in Christie’s Multiplied 2011 a fair devoted exclusively to Contemporary Art Editions. Running from 14th-17th October at Christie’s South Kensington, Multiplied will showcase the hottest new names and the best in contemporary art editions and Black Rat will be there right in the centre of the action so come by and say Hi!

See you all on the 8th!

Pure Evil Gallery Art Auction and Fundraiser for ROBBO (London, UK)

ROBBO
brooklyn-street-art-robbo-pure-eveil-gallery

We’ve just started putting up a few of the pieces handed in so far for the Preview of the ROBBO auction @ Pure Evil Gallery
The preview of the auction opens Thursday evening at 6pm but some images of the work donated so far is up already because we want to get on it straight away… so far we have already raised abut £25,000 selling paintings and prints which is going towards Robbo and his family… he has a baby who is 1 year and 8 months old and other children and we’re trying to help the family out.

brooklyn-street-art-robbo-pure-eveil-gallery-1

The guy is in a coma still, but he seems to be responding to some commands… anyone who has speculated about his injury and what actually happened to put him in hospital heres the scoop : He fell outside his house and hit his head really badly on some stone steps and he has been in hospital ever since.

I dont care about the graffiti / street art politics behind Banksy vs Robbo thats just a falling out between 2 painters. In the bigger picture of things its meaningless . This is more important than all that, we’re just trying to help out a mate. He’s no angel but he’s had a hard knock (literally) and he needs our help.

High Roller Society Presents: “Metamorphosis” LUDO (London, UK)

LUDO
brooklyn-street-art-ludo-high-roller-society-gallery-1
brooklyn-street-art-ludo-high-roller-society-gallery-2
Drawn with the precision of botanical illustrations, Ludo sociological imagery and malevolent creatures are as elegant as they are fierce. Hailing from France, Ludo has been creating attention around industry-fueled consumer culture for over a decade. Seamlessly fusing nature wondrous species with its man-made destructive counterparts, these works intend to jolt us out of a longstanding collective denial: despite repeated natural disasters, we refuse to acknowledge our own fragile state. Ludo resulting quasi-mutant images so effortlessly evoke contemporary creative canons that they might almost go unnoticed, underscoring the impact of “commercial propaganda” on both taste and decency. For his first London solo exhibition, Ludo transmutations are an accumulation of new works spanning sculpture, drawing, and print. This exhibition also heralds the international launch of a 72-page full colour book, OPUS #23, with an Introduction by Marc & Sara Schiller of Wooster Collective. A limited 25 signed copies will be available for sale during the exhibition.
Opens 9.9.11 High Roller Society Unit 10 Palmers Road Bethnal Green London E2 0SY
Hopefully I will see some of you there.
all the best,
