BREAKING AND ENTERING is a demonstration of UR New York’s
vast range and ability to continuously produce groundbreaking urban
inspired art. Artists Michael Baca – aka “2ESAE” and Fernando Romero aka
“SKI” are committed to “breaking and entering” into the mainstream – letting their art loose on the world, all the while breaking the status quo and entering the art world on their own terms — offering intensely personal and colorful works of art with an amazingly beautiful and compelling yet universal appeal.
UR New York
tells the stories of a new generation of artists…those talented urban
and street creators generally hidden in the shadows and more often than
not found arrested and punished for nothing more than expressing their
massive talents.
UR New York
has grown up on the streets of New York City — both artists born and
bred in some of New York’s most notoriously tough neighborhoods.
Continuing with their fascination with and the allure of the street,
Mike and Fernando started their own “gallery stand” on the corner Prince
and Greene Streets a few years ago in SoHo, New York’s original gallery
district. Since claiming the street corner, Ski and 2ESAE have now
moved onward and upward, having been received by the gallery world and
are now fully represented by Pop International Galleries on West
Broadway.
Breaking the cycle of struggling street artists and entering the
professional art world with shows and collaborations globally, with
companies such as Nike, VH1, and of course Pop International, these two
authentic, skillful and versatile artists have begun to make their name
known. BREAKING AND ENTERING
will be the first time they will present an entire solo collection
making them some of the first artists ever to sponsor their own show in
Miami around Art Basel in the Wynwood District.
UR New York
is the premier collective to watch. Propelled by sheer determination, a
hunger for success and growing validation by galleries, collectors and
their peers, Mike and Fernando have a somewhat guerilla approach to the
art world — a point of pride for the two of them, who remain genuinely
grateful and humble. This unconventional approach has already allowed
them some early benefits resulting from their burgeoning success. They
have traveled extensively and work determinedly with kids from all walks
of life, earning admiration and respect the world over. “BE WHO YOU ARE®”
is their credo and they take their growing visibility seriously,
genuinely recognizing their responsibilities as they have an impact on
the kids they encounter, while still maintaining a solid work ethic and
commitment to their community.
BREAKING AND ENTERING will have pieces inspired by traveling the world and the different people that have touched their lives. Ur New York
brings everything back home, with an approach to art that relies
heavily on the city from where they come and the people and culture to
which they’re paying homage.

and Romero truly work together – allowing two distinct personalities to
magically meld on the canvas, creating an enormous a fusion of energy,
hope, power, community and imagination in every piece they make.

Street Artist and Fine Artist Isaac Cordal’s new installation in Milan for Venduto 3 meditates upon the theme of the failure of our leaders to do what they are supposed to do: Lead. If the people in the streets this year from Cairo to Rome to Athens to Paris to LA to New York are indication, leadership is in crisis around the globe.
Among the paradigms that are shifting, first world cultures are also watching some evaporate. With his droll knack for set design, Cordal continues to place his business man sculptures in the man-made environment to create scenes that tweak perception. In these new images, the myth of the paternal employer continues to crumble and Cordal’s miniature loyal “organization man” plods forward unthinkingly with shoulders slumped even as he descends into the rubble.
This weekend in London is the Moniker Art Fair, which features the work of a number of Street Artists, as well as the artists themselves installing, performing, drinking. Part commerce and spectacle, the atmosphere at an art fair always has an expectant air of interactive theater; directors, actors, and prop masters all milling around fervently and working to create a dramatic scene. Ready or not, the doors fly open and in rushes the calico crowd of collectors, fans, and looky-loos to belly up to the stage, discover who has a new idea, and who is recycling old ones. This years Moniker includes work by Aiko, Banksy, Ben Eine, Best Ever, Cash For Your Warhol, D*Face, Dabs & Myla, Greg Miller, Herakut, Jaae, Matt Small, Nate Frizzell, Peeta, Marco ‘Pho’ Grassi, Pure Evil, ROA, Rero, Russell Young, The London Police, and Word to Mother.

Word to Mother solo show “Essence of Adolescence” Friday Stolen Space Gallery
‘Essence of Adolescence’ is an enlightening glimpse into the artist’s visually obsessed mind. Word To Mother invites the viewer to take a glimpse of his inner mindscape. An outward manifestation that combines references drawn from his childhood and the visual stimulation that he absorbed; cartoons juxtaposed with more serious emotive thoughts and fears that face him as an adult living and painting in East London.
Rania Attieh and Daniel Garcia will be on hand to answer questions when they screen their new film “Ok, Enough, Goodbye” at The Museum of Modern Art in New York City this weekend.

Following our hugely successful debut last year, Moniker is back to shake up London’s art fair scene once again highlighting the international scope of street art and beyond. Moniker was responsible for putting East London on the art fair map in 2010, challenging traditional conventions with both gallery exhibits and further signature project spaces ready to whet the appetites of the art crowds.
With over 10,000 people walking through its doors last year, Moniker is set to bombard the scene once again, with a matchless assemblage of artists and galleries who are often overlooked by mainstream art fairs.
Moniker has become recognised by those in tune with international art trends, along with collectors, critics and art lovers alike.Moniker will take place in October this year at Village Underground, Shoreditch from the 13th–16th of October. In addition, Moniker Projects will continue with its philosophy of commissioning a series of offsite projects including public artworks, educational workshops and film screenings, offering visitors a number of opportunities to get involved and be informed.
That dude Doodles completed his piece at “Living Walls : Albany” in this hidden alley of the state capitol after all the camera-packing explorers and six-packing parties ran out of town. Out behind of storehouse Doodles had a lot of time to himself and he created this ode to shaking off the burdens of life with a progressive story across a cinder-blocked wall. The Street Artist explained to us that in one interpretation the figure represents an average modern person accumulating possessions in a materialistic world. But the metaphor he likes best is about shaking off the mounting burden of fear. The final frame, inspired by the artist’s recent trip to the wilds of the Adirondacks in upstate New York, shows the figure freeing himself from those fear and making a break for the woods. Off the grid! Here we go!

New York’s Fountain is spraying westward this weekend in LA and photographer Birdman gives us an inside look at some of the preparations of the Street Art contingent for this show. Somehow Fountain manages to keep a loosely organized chaos on point wherever it goes, a perfect bit of ground between the cracks of the concrete where things of beauty are likely to pop up.

Fountain LA This Weekend
New York’s own specially warped outsiders are in LA this weekend, and BSA is happy to sport support for whatever madness they can stir up, including the Murder Lounge, which Dave Ill says will be in full effect. (Murder- .slang. To defeat decisively). When you are milling around the big LA shows this weekend make sure you stop by Fountain and say hello to Señor Kesting and check out the Street Art contingent doing their thing on the Left Coast ya’ll.
NUART 2011 has arrived and the streets and buildings of Stavanger are a heating up with all the artists getting up and doing what they know what to do best: Paint. Brooklyn’s own Dan Witz already hit the streets with his “King Baby” street installations on faux city street signage. Tonight (Friday) their is a panel debate with artists, Carlo McCormick and Juxtapoz Magazine that we wouldn’t miss.

Bring to Light is a free nighttime public festival of art in New York City that takes place simultaneously with “nuit blanche” events in cities around the world. Inviting emerging and established artists to make site-specific installations of light, sound, performance and projection art, the event creates an immersive spectacle for thousands of visitors to re-imagine public space and civic life. Bring to Light will transform streets, parks and the industrial waterfront of Greenpoint, Brooklyn set against dramatic views of the Manhattan skyline.
Nuit Blanche (French for “white night” or “all-nighter”) is a global network of locally-organized nighttime contemporary art events. Originating in Paris in 2001, the nuit blanche concept now involves millions of people in cities around the world.
One performance we will NOT miss will be Chris Jordan and Josh Goldberg, who have serious chops in public projection work, presenting CHRONO GIANTS.
Art in Odd Places 2011: RITUAL features a wide variety of actions, participatory performances, theatrical presentations, public installations, and small and large-scale interventions all of which revolve around the concept of ritual.
Art in Odd Places (AiOP) presents visual and performance art in public spaces with an annual festival each October along 14th Street in Manhattan, NYC from Avenue C to the Hudson River.

In Street Arts’ latest chapter, the storytellers are hitting up walls with all manner of influences and methods. More than ever before, formally trained and self taught fine artists are skipping the gallery route and taking their work directly to the public, creating cultural mash-ups and highly personal stories of their own, altering the character of this scene once again. Eclectic, individual, and as D.I.Y. as you can imagine, these Street Artists may have knowledge of who came before them or not, but they are determined to be a part of one art scene that is perceived as authentic, relevant, and alive.

Harrington and Jaime Rojo, authors (“Brooklyn Street Art”, and “Street Art New York”, published by Prestel/Random House) and founders of Brooklyn Street Art (BrooklynStreetArt.com) and contributing Street Art writers for The Huffington Post ARTS, as they show and compare examples of work from New York’s streets today.
